As COVID-19 continues to spread through our community, the economic impacts of the pandemic are hitting people hard. Many residents have lost their income and are facing financial uncertainty. Here at Parents And Children Together (PACT) we are doing our very best serving our keiki and families during this pandemic, to provide the services they need to keep them safe, healthy, and able to withstand the social and economic impacts of the virus.
The Hawaii State Department of Education (HIDOE) is implementing the Seamless Summer Option program a few months earlier than scheduled, as approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Hawaii Child Nutrition Programs, to provide free grab-and-go meals for students during the extended spring break period.
The schools below will be providing breakfast and lunch free of charge to children 18 years or younger, regardless of eligibility for free or reduced-price meals.
Parents or caregivers who pick up a meal must be accompanied by a child, according to USDA requirements. There will be no personal interaction between HIDOE employees and the community. All meals will be placed in containers. Meals will be located outside of the cafeteria, preferably closest to a driveway or other natural access point on the campus.
Parent resources for students are University of Hawaii @ Manoa, which has been sending out weekly email to student parents with ideas and resources to help parents with the crisis. SP@M is also hosting weekly web meetings to help offer student parents support during this time.
