As COVID-19 continues to spread through our community, the economic impacts of the pandemic are hitting people hard. Many residents have lost their income and are facing financial uncertainty. Here at Parents And Children Together (PACT) we are doing our very best serving our keiki and families during this pandemic, to provide the services they need to keep them safe, healthy, and able to withstand the social and economic impacts of the virus.
TL;DR: "Re-opening" isn't about saving ordinary workers and earners. You can't save someone by infecting them with a deadly disease. "Re-opening" is about saving investors. These people are willing to risk workers' lives and shoppers' lives because they believe they do not have a shared microbial destiny with the rest of us. But the vast majority of Americans think re-opening is a bad idea. Ass a result, Texas, Ohio, Iowa all have snitchlines for bosses who want to punish mulish, uncooperative workers who think their job isn't worth their lives. If the won't go back go back to worK, their unemployment will be denied.
HCF is working in close collaboration with state leaders, non-profit organizations, businesses, and philanthropists to get a clear understanding of the quickly-evolving priorities in our community. Grant reviews happen daily using our four-phase approach to resilience, outlined below. If you are a nonprofit in need of funding, please visit our grantee page here.

Not in Honolulu yet, but perhaps soon if you know a restaurant owner willing to take this on! Due to the closure of restaurants across America, thousands of restaurant workers have an urgent need for assistance. Independent restaurants are at the center of the vibrant growth in America. For the past decade, we have relied on the convivial and dynamic hospitality of the independent restaurant scene to make this a city that we are incredibly proud of. Restaurant workers need your help more than ever. It is vital that we offer relief to those in need, so after this crisis restaurants can return to their full vibrancy.
In partnership with @makersmark and @leeinitiative @chefedwardlee we have turned restaurants across the country into relief centers with local chefs for any restaurant worker who has been laid off or has had a significant reduction in hours and/or pay. We are offering help for those in need of food and supplies. Each night, we will pack hundreds of to-go meals that people can come to pick up and take home.
Includes several more relief funds for restaurant workers and their children, Crucial resources for immigrants, both documented and undocumented, health info, explanations of Gov't resources, unemployment resources, news and information on the impact of Covid 19 on the restaurant sector's workers. GEM of a resource.
Restaurant Opportunities Centers United (ROC) is asking for disaster relief for the workers it represents, but its aid program is on hold since they were overwhelmed with applications, so I would consider donating to Restaurant Workers' Community Foundation Covid Fund instead until ROC resumes direct aid. I will change this as soon as I find out they are back on track.
Temporarily on hold, but they promise to be back. They were overwhelmed by applications. In the meantime, you can apply for relief now if you are a restaurant worker at Southern Smoke (serves all states, not just in the South).
Application for emergency Covid 19 relief funding for individual restaurant workers. The application is for all states, not just southern ones, and the detailed information is required by Federal regulations, not an info grab as far as I can tell.
They are promising 0% interest loans for restaurant workers as soon as they are able to set them up and will inform via their newsletter first. Sign up here.
